When a push start conversion fails, the instinct is often to recheck every wire. That can create more problems than it solves.
A faster method is to classify the symptom first. Different symptoms point toward different parts of the installation.
Symptom 1: The Controller Appears Completely Dead
Start with the boring possibilities: constant power, fuse protection, ground quality and connector seating. Measure voltage at the controller rather than assuming power exists upstream.
Symptom 2: ACC Works, but ON Mode Does Not
Compare controller output with the ignition circuits you mapped from the original switch. Some vehicles require more than one ignition feed.
Symptom 3: Dashboard Turns On, but the Starter Does Not Crank
Separate vehicle permission from controller output.
- Is the brake input changing correctly?
- Does the controller produce a starter command?
- Does that command reach the verified starter circuit?
- Is the vehicle's park/neutral or clutch interlock satisfied?
Symptom 4: The Engine Cranks Normally but Will Not Start
This is one of the most useful symptoms because it proves part of the system already works. The starter circuit is functioning. Now investigate ignition power during cranking, factory immobilizer authorization and any required fuel-enable logic.

Symptom 5: Engine Starts but Dies Immediately
Look for ignition circuits that drop unexpectedly after the starter releases, anti-theft behavior, or a controller sequence that does not match the vehicle's factory logic.
Symptom 6: Locks Work in One Direction Only
Do not assume the PKE module is defective. Verify lock and unlock trigger type independently. The two circuits may not behave identically.
Symptom 7: PKE Range Is Inconsistent
Check antenna placement, nearby metal shielding, module location and remote condition before modifying lock wiring.
Symptom 8: Everything Works Until the Blower or Headlights Are On
This points toward voltage drop, undersized connections, weak battery condition or high-resistance power/ground paths. Measure voltage during the failure.
The Rule: Change One Thing at a Time
After you identify a suspect, make one correction and retest. If you change five connections at once and the car works, you still do not know what was wrong.
